Why did my cat's bright green eyes turn dull and yellowish-orange?

A memory came up on Facebook from when we first adopted our daughter's cat. Her eyes were bright green when we adopted her. Now they are much duller and have a yellowish orange tinge to them. It must have happened gradually because I never noticed until I saw the pictures and remembered. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed
