My parrot might be egg-bound. When should I take her to the vet?

Hi I think my parrot has an egg as I can feel a hard and egg shape around the back end since Friday how long should I give her to have the egg before taking her to the vet ? She is a eclectus and is 15 years old. Thanks Rachel

thanks for reaching out about Rudy and including a photo. She should be seen by a veterinarian today if she hasn't laid an egg. By the time the ova leaves the ovary, it usually takes around 48 hours for place all the layers not he egg (yolk, albumen, membranes and shell). The shell is placed on the last 8 hours and the timing is so the egg is laid early in the morning. She should have laid the egg before dawn. You can try placing her in the warm steamy bathroom for 10-15 minutes to see if that helps to stimulate uteirne contractions and egg laying. If not she should really see a veterinarian today as there is a risk of the egg adhering to the uterine wall, and rising complications. Good luck.
