How long should my dog fast before X-rays? Can he have water?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Eskimo Dog | Male | neutered | 10 years old | 30 lbs

Brody is having X-rays tomorrow at 430p with light sedation. I was told no water or food the day of. We usually put Brody’s water and food up by 11p which concerns me that he will be without food or water for way over 12 hours. Will he be ok? If not when is latest we should have him start fasting before appointment ? Thanks !

I do not typically with hold water from my patients, but everyone has different preferences and it could be based on the procedure planned as well. I would go ahead and pick up the food and water tonight before bed and then call the office tomorrow morning for further clarification. if they allow you to offer water then you could do so at that time. Best of luck and I hope this helps! Thank you for using Pet Coach.
