My cat has a new spot on his throat. Is it a burn, bite, or infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | unneutered

We nocticed something on our cat’s throat last night, we’re not sure if it’s a burn or something else. We think it just appeared last night because we haven’t seen it before. He’s 2 years old. He’s behaving normal, nothing odd.

This could be a bite abscess or a bacterial infection, or a scratch mark. If it appears to have fluctuating (liquid) content then it is an abscess. I suggest you take Mumu to your veterinarian for an exam. He may need antibiotics, and some wound care. As an unneutered tom he likely will get into fights with other cats when he is roaming outside.
