My Pomsky puppy's breathing and heart rate seem fast. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | 2 months and 12 days old | 8 lbs

I just bought a pomsky puppy and it seems he’s breathing more than normal. Is heart is going up and down like 1-3 times every second. I tried to count how many times per minute and I was at 50 times around 30 seconds. Do you know if this is normal or should I be concerned?

At this age we would expect a small breed puppy to have a heart rate around 180 beats per minute and sometimes higher during excitement, so this is not a concern. The breathing can also be elevated at times in this high energy dog. These symptoms so far don't sound alarming; however, a general health check by your veterinarian isn't a bad idea to do in the near future just to make sure everything checks out ok. In particular we would want the vet to check for any audible heart murmurs or arrhythmias. I hope that things work out well for your pet Ginger moving forward! Best wishes and take care.
