Why is my cat marking outside the litter box even with clean boxes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

Princess is a 4ish year old female cat. We also have her twin brother. Another cat whose over 10 years and diabetic. And a small chihuahua mix. Within the last 4 months, Princess has started marking in the cat room, on the other side of the room from the litter box. And on the rugs on their screened in porch. They have constant access to 2 litter boxes, cleaned daily. The litter hasn’t changed. The food hasn’t changed. It’s like she’s acting out, but we can’t figure out why. Any ideas?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Princess. If I read your question correctly, you have a total of 3 cats. In this case, the standard recommendation is to have 4 litterboxes. This is the first step is to add additional boxes as this may solve the problem. If this does not work, then she will need to see her veterinarian to rule out a medical problem. I hope this information helps!
