My dog's monocytes are slightly high before dental. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 8 years and 9 months old | 14 lbs

Oreo had his blood work done for his dental cleaning recently. Everything was normal except the Monocytes. His reading was 845/uL when normal range is 0 - 840. Our vet said since other readings are fine and he shows on clinical signs, I shouldn't be worried. What is your advice on his monocyte reading? He didn't have gingivitis, just tartar. Please advise. Thank you.

Tartar always comes with gingivitis. My advice stands (I already answered your question before). Trust your veterinarian, he is right. Elevated Monocytes without clinical signs and all other parameters within normal limits, have no significance on the fitness for anesthesia. Your veterinarian is correct. You should not be worried.
