My pet has low hemoglobin. How can I improve it and what food helps?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! A low hemoglobin is not typically fixed with a diet. This is fixed by treating the underlying cause of the iron deficiency anemia and in some cases by supplementing with iron. If she is in a balanced diet you should be good. I recommend that you talk to your veterinarian about treating her anemia. Best of luck!

    Low hemoglobin is usually the result of low iron. However this typically only occurs if there is another underlying problem. If your dog is on a well balanced diet it is probably getting enough iron already and the other underlying issue needs to be addressed. There are some iron vitamin supplements that you can give, this would probably be your best bet because it will be safe and easy to use. You should be able to purchase them at any PetCo store.
