Is a sock okay for dog incision to stop licking instead of a cone?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chinese Crested Powder Puff | Female | spayed | 14 lbs

Just wondering if it’s ok to put a loose type of sock over a small incision on her leg at night while she is in her crate — instead of a cone — to prevent her from licking... the thing is she hasn’t licked it at all yet. Someone is with her all day long. I just want to make sure lightly covering it won’t slow the healing or make it worse. She just had a small cyst removed. She did well.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You may use it though I still recommend the cone over this option. The reason is that they can still lick through the sock and cause issues with the incision. Best of luck!
