My dog's limping with a painful toe and long nail. Can I use old meds?

My dog has a painful toe on his right paw, it has a long nail that he wont let me clip off, he limps around, i have some cephalexin that he had from a dew claw clip, can i use it for this situation?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Reggie. I do not recommend giving him the cephalexin as you do not know for sure why his toe is sore. While he could have an infection, he could also have a wound, broken toe nail, a fracture or foreign object in the paw. Antibiotics are needed in some of these circumstances, but not all. He will need to see his veterinarian to determine the source of the lameness and the best treatment option for him. I hope this information helps!
