Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 9 years and 1 month old | 73 lbs
Hello, i have a golden retriever, 9 yrs old, he was with my sister for a while but not moving a lot and not exercising enough. He is with me now and after yesterday moderate walk he has problems getting up but not much issues when he walks. Is he maybe showing sings or arthritis or he has sore muscles? We also had an issue when he had problems with his throat. At that time he was not able to use his back legs as he usually does. Sincerely, Djordje

At his age and size, arthritis is almost certainly a factor. However he could also have a neurologic issue contributing to the walking changes you're seeing. I would recommend a vet visit for a general exam, to make sure more testing of Joe's neurologic system isn't needed, and then to get started on some antiinflammatory and pain medications to get him more comfortable moving around. It's also important to make sure Joe is an ideal weight (if he's not, decrease his food by 10% every month or two until he is) because that helps a lot with arthritis in big dogs as well. Good luck!
