Help! My cats fight after moving to a smaller apartment. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

So I recently moved out of a 2bedroom apartment I shared with my recently deceased brother where we each raised our cats. Now that I have both in a smaller space my cat has been really going after my brothers cat I inherited. I am looking for a bigger space but still.. His is 3yrs old & mine is 1. They eat the best diet with a vets help due to their gluten & other allergy needs so their diet is perfect. What can I do, I play a lot to tire mine out but he still attacks the other.

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. The change of environment is likely the cause. I would try feliway diffusers and spray. Feliway is a cat pheromone to help with anxiety behaviors like this. You can also look into trying a calming chew like composure or the Rx version composure pro. I would also tried to have 2-3 litterboxes throughout the living area if at all possible to help with territorial spaces. If these don’t help, i would talk to your vet about starting your cat on an anti-anxiety medicine like amitriptyline. I hope this helps and he starts to be more like himself.
