My dog has a chipped K9 tooth with exposed nerve. Should I remove it?

Hi, My dog had chipped his K9 tooth awhile ago and it seems like the nerve is exposed at the bottom of it. It appears to be red and my dog has never seemed to have discomfort from it but the vet told me to have the tooth removed because it is probably causing him pain and could later lead to an abscess. I have his appointment tomorrow but am having doubts if i should do it or not. Just wanted to get a second opinion. Thanks! It may not be causing obvious signs of a problem now, but it is likely to lead to discomfort or an infection down the line.
