My dog's urine tested positive for meth. ADHD meds or street drugs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 10 years and 3 months old | 10 lbs

My dog's urine tested positive for Methamphetamine & Amphetamine in the ER. Trying to figure out how this happened, maybe at beach. My husband does take an ADHD med "D-Amphetamine", but does not remember dropping one, & if that happened unknowingly it would have been 2+ hrs prior to my dog exhibiting signs. Would a prescription AMP cause both positive AMP & MAMP urine results, or does a positive MAMP only occur from street meth? How long after ingestion does the reaction usually start?

Adderall or any ADHD medication is nearly identical chemically to the recreational drug Methamphetamine, so your pet can test falsely positive for Methamphetamine if he got into your husbands medication. It is also possible that Quasi actually got exposed to pure meth. There is unfortunately no way to tell for sure using this test. I would perhaps have the rental place test the product you found in the car to be sure. I hope that Quasi is able to make a full and speedy recovery despite this recent exposure. Best wishes and take care!
