Why is my senior cat shaking her head while eating and drinking?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5.5 lbs

We have a 15 yr old female short hair that has started to shake her head very hard while eating like there is something stuck in her mouth or teeth. We checked & found nothing. This also happens when she is drinking water. Please advise. Thank you. J & G

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chloe. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian for an examination. She could have an ear infection, something known as a nasopharyngeal polyp or even a loose tooth. Based on her exam findings, her veterinarian can recommend treatment if necessary. I hope this information helps!
