My dog cries when I touch her rear or she moves. Is she in pain?

I have a small dog and she cries everytime i touch her bottom area , shes not that old she is like a child very playful , when she move she cries , whats wrong with my dog?

This is a sign of pain/discomfort which commonly can be commonly due to anal glands problems (inflammation/impaction for example), or to hip or spinal pain. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Unfortunately without more clinical informations it is going to be difficult to give you more specific advices.     It sounds like she is having some pain so she should be examined by a vet. Your vet can do a physical examination to localize the pain and then determine the best way to treat. She may need an anti-inflammatory and pain medication to help.

Your dog could have hip or back problems that make it painful to posture to defecate and would also make it hurt when her tail is manipulated. It could also be infected or inflamed anal glands. This condition is very painful and makes it difficult to defecate or even move. Without treatment, the gland may rupture, causing a open wound on your pet's rear that will require wound care and antibiotics as well as some pain relief. I recommend getting your pet seen by your vet. They will examine your pet, possibly do some x-rays and labwork and be able to give you a better idea of what is going on and how best to treat it.

My dog cries when she poos, been about a month now. I also noticed that she rubs her bum across the floor excessively. Is there something wrong that i should be concerned about?!?
Your dog may have a problem with constipation, her anal glands may be inflamed or infected which can be very painful, there are a number of possibilities. I recommend getting her checked by your vet. If it is anal glands your vet can show you how to express the material from them so it doesn't build up and get painful, or if you take her to a groomer, they can do it when she gets a bath.

My dog squeals and seems to be in pain when deficating
Thank you for submitting your question Haily. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. She could have a sore anal gland due to an infection or impaction. If this is not the case, she could be constipated or even have arthritis in her hips or lower back making it painful to defecate. Her veterinarian will carefully examine her and determine the source of he problem. From there, treatment can be started to make her more comfortable. I hope this information helps!

My dog has been walking around and sitting fast, seems to be in pain. My husband felt around the dogs anus gently and the dog yelped in pain. What could it be?
It could be his anal glands, he could have an infection or an impaction, i would recommend taking him to your vet to get it checked ASAP. if the anal glands are infected he will need a course of antibiotics, if they are impacted they will need to be manually emptied.

Hi my dog just recently started to yelp every time we touch her lightly around her butt and back legs. As far as we know she didn't hurt herself but she whines a lot even when she tries to get up from a laying or sitting position. She's almost 5 yrs
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Lazy! She does sound very painful! She likely has hurt her back, hips or tail. The fact she cries out when you touch her there and when trying to get up indicates back end pain. Some dogs with anal gland issues or Lyme disease can show similar symptoms. I would have her seen today by your Vet before the weekend. They will very likely on physical exam be able to tell where she hurts. They can then prescribe the correct and safest medications for her condition. I hope this helps and I wish Lazy a speedy recovery!

Hi my dog just started whining when I touch her back close to her hips she only does it when we touch her
Alaska-what an awesome name! I bet she is a pretty dog! It sounds like Alaska may be experiencing some pain in her hind end. She is coming into her senior years as a giant breed dog, they age more quickly than smaller breeds sadly. I would recommend having Alaska evaluated by your veterinarian. They can do a thorough physical exam, manipulate her hind legs and palpate her spine. The vet may recommend X-rays to check for hip dysplasia, spinal arthritis or degenerative joint disease. They may also recommend blood work in preparation for starting Alaska on anti-inflammatory medications. A good quality joint supplement can also be used to help support joint health. Until you are able to have Alaska seen by your vet I would recommend restricting her activity and making sure that her bed is nice and padded.

Usually these signs are related to sudden onset of pain, very commonly spinal or abdominal pain. Yes I agree with your plan I think if the signs do not resolve spontaneously, a check up would be needed to determine underlying source of pain and treat appropriately.

I barely touch the back part of my dogs butt and legs and he screams he can go downstairs and walks fine, eats,drinks, and uses the bathroom fine but has a hard time going upstairs. When he lays down and tries to get up he cries or if u help him move
This could be from a tail injury, or back pain. Generally with arthritis they don’t cry out in pain. I’d give him a few days to see if this gets better on its own, then if he’s still that painful I recommend a veterinary exam and pain medication. I have a short tail Blue Healer (female and not spayed) who is little over a year old. When anything touches her tail or the general area even slightly she screams, panics, and runs into her crate. She has no health problems aside from being slightly
If this has only been going on for a day or two, 'swimmer's tail' or 'limber tail' is a possibility. This is a swelling of the muscles at the base of the tail that can result in significant pain, and it can seem like the dog is unable to move it's tail. An injury would be less likely with no history of trauma. Spinal/lumbar pain is also possible. Anal gland inflammation could also cause some discomfort although it would be unusual to cause such extreme pain. Unfortunately I think a physical examination by a veterinarian would be necessary to diagnose the problem.

Why does my dog whine when ever she moves
This sounds like your pet is painful somewhere. Typically musculoskeletal (muscle or bone) pain will cause whining during motion. I would recommend feeling around on your pets body for any particularly painful areas (if you wish to investigate first). If there are painful areas, then take this concern to your vet so that they can do a good exam of the area and make the best recommendations moving forward with your pets care. Typically for muscle sprains they can be treated with just NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatorys) with good success. However if the pain is more internal and possibly a bone or ligament the vet will most likely recommend x-rays to evaluate the areas of interest further.
