My cat's blood test shows elevated basophils. Should I be worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | neutered | 12.8 lbs

My cat's bloodwork came back, and his basophils show 0.57 which I am worried because the range is 0.01 to 0.26 k/ul. His eosinophilis is normal. Should I be worried that he has bone marrow problems, cancer, or liver disease?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! No, the basophils can be slightly high and not be a real concern. In his case, they are just very mildly elevated and not really something concerning. That could be due to some degree or inflammation that may resolve on its own. Best of luck!
