My small puppy ate adult dog's pills. Is it an overdose risk?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 15 days old | 6 lbs

My 6lb 11 week old puppy ate his moms 100mg doxycycline and 5.4mg of Apoquel (1 pill of each) when I was trying to feed it to his mom in a piece of ham. I work at a vet clinic but am worried something can happen to him overnight. Should I be concerned about overdoses since he is so small?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach, If the ingestion was recent (in the last hour) then you can take PeeWee to a clinic to induce vomiting to try to get it out. Otherwise just monitor. It should be ok but you might see vomiting, diarrhea, GI upset overall. Any other abnormal activity then get PeeWee to a vet right away for supportive care. Best of luck with PeeWee!
