My dog has bloody diarrhea and black skin. Are they related?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog Jenny has bloody diarrhea. She is not lethargic. She also has black coloration on her sides. Are those two things connected and what could be wrong with her?

It looks like Jenny has lost hair at the black spot on her side - this could be from allergies, a skin infection or parasites. I can’t think of a way that this would be related to bloody diarrhea. Intestinal parasites (not the same as skin parasites), eating foods or things in the yard, and some infections can cause bloody diarrhea. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian to address the diarrhea as soon as possible.
