How to get my kitten to use her cat scratcher instead of furniture?

My kitten Cleo just got her new cat scratcher a week ago but hasn't used it for scratching yet. It has a toy attached and she loves to play with that but not scratch. How can I get her to scratch it instead of my pants or couch? Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Female | spayed | 2 months and 21 days old | 8 lbs

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That is not something that you can necessarily teach her. She will eventually use it. The one thing you can do though is to keep taking her to it and perhaps show her how to play by simulating playing with it. She may pick up on it but otherwise it will happen with time.
