2 week old puppy has skin condition. He is the only one out of 7 puppies. Don’t know what it is or how to treat.

This is likely to be cause by mites (demodex is probably involved). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to quickly confirm this clinical suspicion and treat appropriately. Antibiotics or specific medications for mites (ivermectin) may be needed. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That puppy needs to be seen by a veterinarian to treat its skin condition. They will need to check it for microscopic mites and treat for parasites. It may also have a secondary infection (like bacteria) that needs to be addressed. Once a vet sees it, they can give you a treatment plan to fix it’s skin. Good luck!

Hi, and thanks for your question. This presentation is likely to be due to a localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up at your local vet, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Hello. Just yesterday I noticed that most of my 3 week old puppies are getting these dots or spots. It looks kinda like a dry spot just with little to no hair. Is this something to be concerned about or is this common?

this recently showed up on my puppy, I have no idea what it is but I want to know if I need to give him something for it.
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jack. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. Skin tests will likely need to be performed. Demodex is a mite that lives normally in the hair follicles of dogs. Puppies can experience an overgrowth. This is common in his breed. The veterinarian can diagnose this condition with a procedure known as a skin scrapes. Of course, there can be other conditions affecting his skin. In the meantime, I recommend bathing him with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe the skin. Place an E-collar on him if he is licking or biting the areas. I hope this information helps!
