My cat is throwing up after chewing a philodendron. Is it toxic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | 2 years and 8 months old | 10 lbs

My 2 year old cat has thrown up 12 times in 3 days, and can’t keep any food down. I’ve been giving her pedialyte and water mixture and she keeps that down. My family can’t afford to take her to the vet. I’m very worried about her. We have a large “Cut-Leaf Philodendron” plant that we just bought in our house and I’ve caught her chewing on it. Thank you. ~Sammie

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to ingesting the plant as sometimes this causes vomiting. Sometimes it can result in inflammation of the mouth. Unfortunately, Bella really needs to see a veterinarian to at least be examined and treated symptomatically. That many episodes of vomiting can result in severe dehydration which is quite serious. I highly recommend you consider taking her to a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Best of luck!
