Is a simple blood test enough to check my dog's copper levels?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 74 lbs

Can vets just test my dogs copper levels without doing a cbc or any other tests?

Unfortunately the value of this test in blood is not relevant and would not help with any diagnosis. Copper accumulation usually happens in the liver so either a biopsy or a general health profile (with liver function testing) may be much more helpful to diagnose this toxicity.
