My dog gained weight, chest grew, and makes noise when carried. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 13 lbs

I noticed recently my dog has gained a bit of weight (around 3 pounds) and that his chest area (between he two front legs) has grown. Sometimes he makes a noise when i carry him up. Is this something to be worried about? He is eating normal, but does not drink as much water.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is not possible to know well what is going on without being able to evaluate this area. This could be just extra skin but on the other hand this could also be something like a growth. I recommend that you check in with a veterinarian who can examine him for further assessment and treatment. They can then decide if any therapy is needed if this is something significant. Best of luck!
