Is grapeseed oil safe for dogs as a vitamin E alternative? Dosage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 93 lbs

Was wondering if grapeseed oil or extract is safe to give to my 6 year old GSD instead of vitamin E supplements that have gluten or soy or oleic acid (safflower, sunflower, olive, canola oil) and if so what dosage in compared to 400 IU vitamin E supplement?

Hello, grapeseed oil is safe to use in dogs and can be found in products for coat and skin health. The quantities of Vitamin E in grapeseed oil are small. However you may easily calculate (based on how much Vitamin E is in the grapeseed oil product you're using) how much grapeseed oil you need to be equivalent to 400IU of vitamin E. You may find the concentration of the vitamin E on the product label. Hope this helps and best of luck.
