What's the life expectancy for senior dogs on Metacam for arthritis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 5 years and 8 months old

For a large 5-1/2 yr. old dog, on Metacam tablets daily, for Osteo-arthritis, what is the expected life expectancy for her, on the Metacam? (She is 5-1/2 yrs. old.) Even with every 6 - 12 month blood exams? Will the Metacam shorten her life?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If well-tolerated, the Metacam should not shorten her lifetime. I would recommend you continue to monitor the bloodwork closely to make sure that it is being well tolerated in which case it should not affect her life expectancy. Best of luck!
