My dog is rubbing his face on the ground and won't eat. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 3 days old | 20 lbs

My dog keeps rubbing his face on the ground and pushing his food away when we try to feed him. This began on Monday, we gave him wet food to see if he would eat it & only ate a few bites and began doing the same pushing and rubbing of face. We thought it may of been because we spray no marking spray and he began eating after moving away from sprayed areas. He ate fine tuesday and today (wednesday) has begun the rubbing of the face and not eating. Is there a reason for this??

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chip. I recommend having him evaluated by his veterinarian if his behavior continues. He could have oral pain due to a wound or bad tooth. He may also have an ear infection as these are common in his breed. Based on his exam, his veterinarian will guide you as to what may be the problem and if he requires treatment. I hope this information helps
