My cat has litter stuck on his paws. How can I remove it safely?

How do you get cat litter off paws when it is stuck on his paws?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This depends on the extent of it. However, you can consider doing it with a wet towel or just using a towel after wetting the paws to get rid of it. This should work well. Best of luck!

    These little litter granules can get caught in the paws. I suspect as Leo gets older he will get better at grooming these off of himself. You can rinse Leo's feet in water and these will likely come right off. If the litter is really getting clumped in the paw you could change litter type to something like Yesterday's News litter. They would be able to evaluate this further and determine what would be the safest way to get it off. I noticed something on my cat's paw yesterday and it was somewhat concerning. I just would like to know what it might be and what I should do.
It is likely either some dirt or cat litter stuck on the paw, or hyperkeratosis, ie the pad grew more skin than normal and it cracked. If she is not bothered by it and not painful, you can just ignore it. But you can also (if she lets you) soak her foot in luke warm water and gently rub off the "dirt". Make sure you dry off the paw very well afterwards and put some vaseline on the area where you rubbed off the material.

Hi and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear about the poop incident- this can happen sometimes. She likely was yowling because she didn't like the feeling of the wipe on her paws or rear. Some cats simply do not like their paws or rear end touched. You can consider bathing her or taking her to a cat groomer if she doesn't like the wipes much. You can also try a no rinse pet shampoo too. I hope this helps!

I would recommend using shredded paper in her litter box instead of sand or litter if she has infected toes. Do not apply topical medication. If she is licking her feet excessively she may need an e-collar or something to help prevent her from licking. If it is very infected or painful then she really needs to see a veterinarian to determine if she needs antibiotics. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

I'm glad to hear that the nail caps work well for your cat's front feet! Most cats are far more tolerant of having their front feet handled than their back feet. Since Your cat is unable to retract his toe, I do think it's worth trying to remove the glue. Walking in with his toe in an abnormal position could cause him to inadvertently injure himself. Most of these caps use some form of a super glue for attachment. If your cat will tolerate it without causing you any bodily harm, try to soak the affected area in either vegetable oil or mineral oil for a few minutes, then try to gently scrape away at the glue closest to his nail base. It's not a big deal if some of the glue remains on his nails - it will wear off eventually. You may want to try wrapping your cat's body tightly in a large towel with the foot in question left out of the wrapping. We all this a "kitty burrito" and it's often helpful for a bit of restraint. If one of Noushmc's paws seem to be wounded, I would recommend she see her veterinarian soon to take a closer look at the paw so it can be evaluated properly. If the underlying tissue is exposed, the paw can become infected and the litter can potentially be problematic if the wound is large enough. You can try using 3% hydrogen peroxide instead of the vinegar and water until you are able to get her seen by her veterinarian. I hope this helps!

Can anyone please tell me how I can treat my cat’s paw?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! You can try soaking Sheeba’s foot in a warm epsom salt bath for 10-15 minutes 2-3 times per day. That may help draw out some of the infection. Make sure to rinse it well after and dry thoroughly. If it’s not looking better on 2-3 days I would recommend taking her to a vet for a closer look and possibly oral medications.
