Why does my puppy have chronic diarrhea, gurgling, and no weight gain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 11 days old | 25 lbs

Pup is 5 months and having ongoing diarrhea issues for over a month, has been tested for worms and parasites many times = negative, and treated for them. Tried bland foods and 3 diff. brands of food. Starts day with firm stool by night it is complete liquid. Stomach makes loud gurgling noises and he gets hiccups a few times a day, I'm convinced it's IBS but my vet doesn't seem to do much. He has also had difficulty gaining weight due to this. Has not affected his personality or energy at all!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to many conditions such as chronic pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), an infection, among other possibilities. Other diagnostics that could be considered at this point include an abdominal ultrasound, fecal infection test and GI panel. This should be a good starting point for Jackson. Given the complexity of this case, they could check in with an internal medicine specialist for a possible referral. Best of luck!
