My dog has rat blood on his mouth. Did he eat a poisoned rat?

Pet's info: Dog | Chinese Shar-Pei | Male | unneutered | 70 lbs

found my 9yr old shar pei with rat blood all over his mouth and paws and not sure if the rat ate the poison from the rat box trap in the backyard. what should I do?

I'd take Chubbs into a vet immediately for treatment to be safe. Depending on the type of poison, it can take days for signs of rat poisoning to appear in dogs. Bring the box of rat poison so the vet can treat him appropriately. Best of luck.

If there is even a possibility that Chubbs had any of that rat poison through the rat, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Depending on when this happened, they can start a decontamination plan and also start him on medications to try to prevent possible issues that can be seen with rat poison ingestion. Best of luck!
