Is it normal for my 5-year-old cat to suddenly grow taller?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Tonkinese | Male | neutered | 5 years and 4 months old | 11 lbs

My cat is five years old right now, just turned it a few months ago. But recently he has been seeming bigger, and not as.. Active as he has been. He's not fatter, but taller, and stockier. Is it normal for a cat to grow this late?

Hello. No, it is not normal for a cat to become taller this late in life. I strongly suggest that you have Toews examined. Although unlikely, I would like to make sure this is not feline acromegaly, a disease that results from chronic, excessive growth hormone secretion. Hope all is well & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
