Can anaplasmosis cause kennel cough or weaken my dog's immunity?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 70 lbs

Hi, my lab is 19 months old, over the summer tested positive for anaplasmosis, platelets were low normal, treated with doxy then normal. Now he has kennel cough. Could the two be related or that it's just the anaplasmosis, not kennel cough? Or could anaplasmosis make him have a weaker immune system?

Kennel cough is a very infectious disease. He could have come in contact with a dog that was incubating kennel cough, or you could have stepped in some discharge from a dog with kennel cough and brought it home with you. The anaplasmosis has nothing to do with kennel cough, this would be a new infections that is unrelated. I would not worry much about it. Kennel cough is usually self-limiting and will go away within about 3-4 weeks. It is like a cold.
