My kitten was attacked by a dog and has pale gums. What do I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered

My kitten was attacked by a dog and now cannot walk, he breathes heavily and cannot meow but he tries. His gums/roof of his mouth is snow white. He tries to move by kicking his back legs and jerking his body around. There are red marks under his forelegs where we think the dog bit/grabbed him (there was no blood as harm wasn't intended (dog already knew the kitten)). I've already given him sugar water but I'm scared, what else can I do? His temperature drops quickly.

He needs to see a vet immediately. The pale gums could mean internal bleeding or circulatory shock. Breathing heavily can be pain or trauma to the lungs. Low body temperature in cats is a sign of severe illness. Even if you don't see external injuries, the internal injuries could be severe in small kittens.
