Why is my dog acting weird with dilated pupils and head bobbing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 4 months old | 10 lbs

Laitly Kiara has been acting different and it is starting to scare me alittle. Her pupils were dilated, she was moving her head back and forth, even space off staring at the wall. When i would call her name she acted like she didn't hear me, if i picked her up she freaked out. Later on in the day i went to the store and came back and she seemed like her normal self runnin around. But maybe 2 or 3 hours later she started acting weird again.

Poor girl. This breed is prone to several disorders that can cause this including: hepatic encephalopathy, hydrocephalus, a brain tumor, or even just vestibular disease. I would highly recommend taking her in to your vet for further testing (ie Bloodwork +/- xrays) as soon as possible. I hope that your fur baby I able to become stable soon! It’s best to just keep her calm and no extrenuous activity until she can be seen and evaluated. Best wishes and take care!
