My dog just finished heat. Why is there stringy mucus when she pees?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 7 lbs

My mothers minature pinscher is just getting done with her heat cycle. Today we noticed when she peed there was stringy mucus stuff coming out of her private. This is her 2nd heat cycle and will be getting spayed this month. Should we be concerned or is it normal? Thank you in advance!

Hello, thank you for your question about Lola. Based on your description I would not be overly concerned about a small amount of mucous, this can occur during a heat cycle. However if Lola's heat cycle continues and you notice a more colored or odorous discharge or Lola begins to act lethargic or have other symptoms I would recommend having her evaluated by your veterinarian. Hope this helps, good luck!
