Dog shaking, warm, then wobbly. Are these signs of a seizure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labradoodle | Male | neutered | 12 years and 9 months old | 105 lbs

The other morning I found him awake, lying down & shaking. He also felt very warm. That went away. About an hour & a half ago he fell down the stairs & was walking as if he were intoxicated. Could these two incidents be related? Could it be he just woke up so he was groggy?

I wonder if these two events are potentially the post ictal phase of seizures. A grand mal seizure is characterized by loss of consciousness and convulsions, but the active phase can be quite short. There is then a recovery period called the post ictal phase where the dog is disoriented, can act aggressive or clingy, can pant heavily, or have trouble walking. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian especially if Tullamore is still walking abnormally. Low blood sugar, anemia or liver disease can cause similar signs but usually they would be persistent.
