Hello, I'm sorry to hear about Rebound's discomfort. Anal glands can commonly become infected, and sometimes fill with pus. When this happens, the infection needs to be drained under sedation and treated with oral antibiotics for at least two weeks. This can generally be prevented with regular anal gland expression, but sometimes anal glands become so problematic that they need to be surgically removed. A less common cause of anal swelling and pain may be due to something more serious, such as colon cancer. I would recommend taking Rebound into her vet today so they can do a rectal examination and find out exactly what is going on and create a treatment plan for her. I worry that her lack of appetite means that she is in pain, has an infection, or both. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
