What's the best flea & lice treatment for cats if Frontline isn't working?

Hello. What is the best fleas and lice treatment for cat on the market at the moment? I use Frontline Plus all the time but lately start to feel that it doesn't work like how it used to. I also saw a lot of negative reviews on Amazon saying the same thing. Please help.

Lice are not terribly common in cats. I don't really feel like Frontline or fipronil products work very well anymore. I prefer products like Revolution or Bravecto. Seresto collars also offer great protection.

    Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Often the drugs that are used for lice and fleas will kill the adults, but not the eggs, and you have to wait for the eggs to hatch in order to kill them off, and the drug kills the adults before they are able to lay more eggs. The spot-ons tend to work better than the collars in my experience, and both Seresto and Frontline are good products, just be very careful to not use dog products on your cat as they can be very toxic. Grooming is going to help significantly, and if you are unable to bath and groom, and if the hair is very matted and dirty, some people will go to the vet, have their animal sedated and shaved/clipped. It sounds like this might be a good option for you at this stage. I hope that helps! Best of luck with them!

I personally don't recommend any over-the-counter flea sprays for cats, as they tend to not be very effective and many can be dangerous depending on the chemicals used. Cats are very sensitive! The best over-the-counter flea treatment available for cats is Advantage. Better options for fleas, which also prevent intestinal parasites and heartworm disease, are Advantage Multi (Advocate) or Revolution (Stronghold) - these are prescription medications you can get from your veterinarian, or order online with a prescription from the vet.

My cat has lice and I would like to know what should I do to get rid of it.
I recommend using Frontline or any other product that contains the ingredient FIPRONIL. This kills lice and can be found as an ingredient in Frontline and other flea and tick preventative products. I'm sorry to hear that you're having this problem! Fleas can be very frustrating to get rid of in some cases. I will tell you that in my experience, Frontline Plus is not effective at all anymore for fleas - I regularly see pets who are using this product and still covered in fleas. Advantage II is the most effective over-the-counter topical flea product for cats. Stronghold or Advocate, which are prescription flea meds you can get from your vet, would be even better. Once you get the cats on a good quality flea control medication, it should be much easier to eliminate them from the environment.

My cat has lice problem. I washed him twice tme with human lice shampoo as there is no pet shop but after after around 3 days I was lice again and then I also washed him with human lice shampoo but those lice come again after 3 days. So what can I do
I would recommend putting a topical flea medication such as Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution on Marmalate - all of these should be effective against lice as well. You should be able to get these from your vet, or order them online if you prefer - just make sure to get the correct size for your cat's weight.

I place Sentry Plus flea medication on my cats last Wednesday. The medicine does not seem to be working. Can I safely use Frontline now or do I need to wait one month to apply it?
Since both Sentry and Frontline use the same active ingredient (fipronil) it is unlikely that you will see better protection switching to the Frontline. You will need to choose a product with a different ingredient, like Advantage or Revolution or a Seresto collar. If you choose to use another topical, I would recommend bathing your kitty today to remove any remnants of the Sentry, and wait 3 days to apply the next topical. It is important to wait after bathing so that the natural body oils have time to coat the skin to ensure adequate absorption. You do not need to wait or bathe to use a Seresto collar.

My cat has a lot of fleas and scratches/bites to the point where she is losing hair in some spots. I put Advantage II on her at the beginning of the month. Do you think it's safe to give her revolution or a flea collar? What would you recommend?
Advantage is generally a pretty effective flea medication for cats, so I'm surprised to hear that it hasn't been working well for Lily. If you want to try a different medication for her, I would suggest Revolution - I usually see good results with it for flea control, and it also prevents heartworms and intestinal parasites. As long as it's been at least two weeks since you applied the Advantage, it should be fine to go ahead and apply a dose of Revolution. I don't generally recommend flea collars for cats, as they tend not to work very well and can often be toxic for them. You may also want to use a flea spray such as Knock-Out to treat your house and yard, as it's possible that Lily is continuing to pick up fleas from the environment - this can make it much more difficult for any flea medication to work correctly.

Frontline unfortunately is not a good flea treatment, as it is not working anymore in many cases. Here is a list of good quality flea (and ticks) treatment. Spot ons: Revolution, Advantage, Advantage Multi, Bravecto spot on (ticks as well). A good house spray would be Indoorex. Hello, & thank you for using Boop by Petco. I would wait at least another 2 weeks before using another topical. In the meantime, you can definitely use one of the oral cat flea products. You can purchase Capstar in most bigger pet stores. It only lasts 24 hours, but you can administer it several times a week until you can use another topical ( I recommend either Frontline Gold, or Bravecto for cats ). Or you can purchase Comfortis from your veterinarian. With this, 1 pill will last 30 days. I like Revolution, more because it gets heartworms plus hookworms & roundworms, but it is a topical, too. So use an oral tablet for now. They work great. Take care.

My dog and 2 cats have fleas. I have tried baths,sprays and collars and still I am finding bugs on them. What would be the best budget friendly product to try next?
Regarding OTC products, Frontline is still a good option. Do know there is a diference between what you can buy without a prescription. Generally know the products sold by your vet are the most effective. Top products for dogs are oral products such as Simparica and Nexgard. Top products for cats are topicals such as Revolution and Cheristan. There is also an oral product called Comfortis that both dogs and cats can take. You will need to switch all the pets over to a good flea product. Make sure to discuss these products with your veterinarian first. These products are generally safe for all pets but there are some conditions which are contraindicated for the oral products. Cleaning up and treating the house and yard will also help but it will not clear all the fleas. The main control is making sure the pets are on good products. This is what will ultimately stop the infestation. Also remember every female fleas lays about 50 eggs a day and it could take up to 6 months before the egg

Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas.
