My dog has a herniated disc. Is that the same as IVDD in dogs?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 5 years and 11 months old

is an acute herniated disc the same thing as ivdd? I have been told its not.

Intervertebral disc disease can refer to the degenerative changes to the discs seen in certain breeds. An acute herniated disc can occur due to underlying IVDD or rarely other things like trauma. Often the two phrases are used interchangeably.
