My puppy has large bumps with pus on her underbelly. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 7 months and 4 days old | 35 lbs

My 7-month-old spayed puppy sometimes gets these large bumps on her lower underbelly. they usually go away on their own. however, they are fairly large (around the size of a quarter). They appear to have pus in them although I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to bother her when touched. but they are very large and worry me.

Hello, thank you for your question about Sequoia. Based on what you are describing it sounds like she may be dealing with puppy pyoderma/impetigo, secondary to a bacterial skin infection. This is not an uncommon infection in puppies. Depending on the severity this condition is treating with topical skin cleansers or if severe can require antibiotics. It sounds like Sequoia's condition may be more mild and respond to gentle cleansing, however I would recommend consulting with your veterinarian so that they can decide if Sequoia needs a course of antibiotics to help these lesions resolve. Hope this helps, good luck!
