Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 5 months old | 30 lbs
My 3 year old Jack Russell mix has steadily lost 3-4 lbs in the last month or so. From 30 lbs to about 26 lbs now. He has been acting the same, and still has the same activity and still enthusiastic about eating his kibble, about 1 2/3 cup a day. We have stopped feeding him table food within this time, but didn’t think he’d lose this much weight so quickly. Is this normal?

This is pretty rapid weight loss, but if you were feeding quite a bit of table food it’s possible that he’s had a dramatic reduction in calories. There are a few other diseases hat can cause weight loss with a normal appetite however including diabetes and parasites. I would recommend having Mozzarella examined by your vet. If he does not appear to have a medical reason for his rapid weight loss your vet can help put together a weight loss plan to make sure he loses weight slowly to maintain muscle mass.
