How to help a fearful senior rescue dog adjust to a new home?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 62 lbs

Hello, My wife and I adopted a female black lab that was used in a puppy mill. She was going to be killed, she is eleven yrs old. Been to our vet for shots and checkup she is in good health. The problem is she endured a terrible life she is so afraid of everyone and most things. we have had her for three weeks she is now holding her head up and looking at us.She had never seen a child been in a house just chained to a tree .we want to bring out the beautiful girl thats inside ?????

Take it slowly, be patient, be kind to her, praise her a lot. Get her interested in a tennis ball, make dinner a happy occasion. 11 years is almost a whole dog's life. She may never become completely relaxed. Little does it, go slowly. Give her space, give her her own bed, never punish or bother her in her own bed. That is a safe place. I hope that helps.
