Dog ate Funyuns, vomiting, pale gums. Should I call the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | 11 years and 7 months old | 16 lbs

My dog weighs 16lbs. Last night she ate a couple of our snacks called Funyuns. Later she ate 3 or 4 bites of ice cream and vomited it right away. Now the last 3 hours she's hiding under the bed. Doesn't want to be bothered. Gums look a little pale in some places, but not others. Has drank water earlier this morning, and just ate a couple of treats. What should I do? What would the vet do if I go there? Should I go to the bet or wait it out?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Keep in mind that the combination of these could result in gastrointestinal upset. Also, the Funyuns as they contain onion, can also result in complications such as anemia which is why you may be seeing the pale gums. I would recommend that you visit a veterinarian. At this point what they can do at the vet is at least check labwork to see if any of that is likely meaning if Abbie was exposed to enough onion substance to cause an issue and she needs any sort of supportive care. At the very least they can check her hydration status and start her on anti-nausea medications. Best of luck!
