My cat chews ironed clothes & bedding. How do I train her to stop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 5 months and 7 days old | 7.94 lbs

She tends to chew and tear ironed clothes or even the iron board, I was late so ironed my new clothes on my bed itself, she not just tore my bedsheet but even tried to tear my new clothes, luckily they were of denim thus they didn't tear, just minor damages. I don't understand her behaviour? I don't scold or hit her, I keep repeating NO but she never pays heed to it. This is the 2nd bedsheet she tore due to the same reason. I love her much but how to train her?

That's an interesting problem. If it's really truly only things that have been in contact with the iron, there is clearly something about that smell that she finds interesting. She may have learned this as a young kitten somehow. Of hand, I can't see a way to train this away and would suggest having a special room you do all your ironing and keep clothes or linens that have been ironed in there, so that she never has access.
