Why is my Pomeranian mix suddenly lethargic with red, swollen eyes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 8 years and 10 months old | 19 lbs

Hi. My name is Grace, and i have a 8 year old pomeranian mix named Kobi. I am currently concerned because he seems very lathargic. He usually only sleeps when everything quiet and everyone is doing their own thing. He is usually a very energetic dog when you get him to. He’s been kinda weird yesterday & today. You usually rarely catch him with eyes close when he resting, but now when he lifts his head his eyes are closed. His eyes seem very swollen and red. Please help, thank you

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Decreased energy or lethargy is a very non-specific sign so it is hard to know for sure what may be going on. Hopefully this is just transient but if this continues, I would recommend that you have Kobi evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They can start by performing a physical examination and taking it from there to determine what may be going on with him. Best of luck!
