Why do my cats have bloody wounds & hair loss after a pet spa?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Turkish Angora | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 3 lbs

I took my 2 cats to a pet spa to shave their fur. But exactly 13 days later I started noticing a few rash like bloody wounds on their body. They are increasing rapidly each day with hair loss around all infected areas eg. Ears, whole tail, stomach area, back, infront of the tail. all areas are increasing in both size and quantity. I have used betadine and panderm on their skin they helped, but I can’t stop them from doubling even tho I’ve used coconut oil and apple video vinegar on them.

Please stop putting all these remedies on your cats as they will not work and may make things worse. Your cats likely have either a fungal or bacterial infection likely contracted at the spa through infected clippers. Please take your kitties to a veterinarian for an exam and hair sampling for a fungal culture. Your cats need either antibiotics or a fungicide. Please also wash your hands after handling your cats as a fungal infection can be transmitted to people.

It looks bacterial but dofficultnto say but just looking a pictures. There is no way to say whether this came from the groomer. I would have your vet take a look at her so they can do a cytology and a possibly fungal culture if needed. They will be able to get her on the proper meds to help her skin get better before it gets worse. I hope this helps!
