My dog is lethargic after a trip. Is he sick, tired, or ate something?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 5 years and 6 months old | 63 lbs

My dog is typically hyper, excited, & follows me around basically everywhere I go. We just got back from Thanksgiving with my parents (they have 2 dogs & he played with them all weekend & also bread rolls off the counter), but when I got home from class at 7 pm, he lacked enthusiasm & something seemed off. He’s never acted like this before, even after play dates with other dogs. Now he’s lethargic & hardly reacts to anything i do/say & i’m worried! Is he just tired or is he telling me he’s sick?

He could simply be tired, but if it goes on for more than 24 hours, I'd recommend a check up with his vet to make sure nothing is going on. He could have pulled a muscle or eaten something more than you realized during the visit. If he's not eating, extremely lethargic, or vomiting, I'd go to the vet ASAP.
