Why is my dog vomiting bile daily, 2 months after eating xylitol?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 5 years and 2 months old | 11 lbs

About 2 months ago my dog ate a natural cold medicine it did have xylitol in it but I’m guessing not enough she never got sick or had any issues from it but within the last month she has be vomiting bile daily if she takes Pepcid ac it seems that stops the vomit. My question is could this just be acid reflux bile or something more because of those pills even tho she ate the pills 2 months ago?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Vomiting can be observed with gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, food sensitivity, foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I think that this is less likely due to xylitol toxicity at this point but there is always the possibility that this could be due to long lasting effects to the liver which is possible with this toxicity. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. Treatment would depend on findings. Good luck and have a great day!
