My cat has orange parasites in her ears. What are they and how to treat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 2 months old

I believe my cat has chiggers in her ears but they are fatter than what I know chiggers to look like. There is a bright orange mass of them in each ear and a smaller mass on the back of one ear. I also found one in between her toes. I haven’t seen her itch her ears any more than normal though? How can they be treated?

Without seeing them in person I cannot tell you whether these are chiggers. These could also be tick nymphs. If they have legs, I would take some Frontline spray and dab it on the parasites. If there are some inside the ear canal they would have to be removed by your vet with a special instrument. Best take your kitty to the vet for an exam and removal of those parasites.
