Why is my new kitten lethargic, twitching after dewormer and shots?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1.5 lbs

We found a 6-8 week old kitten yesterday, we brought it to Petco's vet today. They gave it a dewormer and some type of vaccination. The cat has been very lethargic for 6 hours. Has not moved around much, his legs are twitching, he cries when we touch his stomach. He has eaten, after eating he seemed to feel a bit better for a moment. What do we do?

He needs to be seen by a veterinarian for a wellness exam. He may not be able to poop and may be constipated, or he had so many worms that all the dead worms are making him ill. Keep him warm, entice him to drink water, and should he deteriorate he needs to be seen at a petER tonight.
